Young, who was with his uncle on the night in questioned (January 29th) was in the garage around 9pm when he decided to go around the house to urinate. In a matter of seconds, he found himself lying down on the ground with bullets flying over his head.
Plain-clothes officers with guns approached Young without identifying themselves. While lying down, he was told to put his hands on top of his head, but when he didn’t act quickly enough, he was shot in the leg. In an interview with NBC Los Angeles, Young said, “I laid down cause they were shooting. I couldn’t do anything. I put my hands on top of my head. I could feel the bullet passing my head. I almost died…. I didn’t do anything wrong.”
Bullet holes were visible on the side of the garage and on the truck found in the driveway. In addition to this, a neighbor’s house was shot at least twice. The suspect deputies were looking for was Robert Pope.
After being hospitalized for gunshot wounds, Young expected to be released, but that wasn’t the case. He was charged with assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon. Authorities claim that Young was running through yards and pulled out two knives on them and attempted to stab them. However, Young disputes the claim and reiterates he was taking a urination break.
